FAQs
Click/tap the arrow next to the question to get the answer.
If you hire us for representation, for each event included in the proposal, we appear with you in court and act on your behalf. Before court, we meet with you (e.g., in person, by phone, by Zoom). And we prepare your case for court.
Any other service (e.g., more than one appearance, consultation, or preparation per event) is not standard and may be billed separately.
There is normally not a need for other services, but sometimes there is. It depends on the person and the case and how much attention they need.
Expenses, if any, are billed at cost. In other words, the cost of an expense to you is what the cost of the expense was/is to us. There is no mark-up.
Court events in a criminal case may include:
- Preliminary events (e.g., for preliminary hearing)
- Pretrial events (e.g., for arraignment, plea, or other resolution)
- Trial
- Sentencing
- Post-sentence events
The most common events are in parentheses above. Whether an event occurs may depend largely on if and how far your case proceeds through the system.
For a more detailed list of events as well as the courts that host those events, go to help.stevericelaw.com.
"Included events" are events that are included in the fee for representation.
Which events are included in the fee? The events described above, which may or may not include every event in your case.
If the event is not included in the proposal, it is not included in the fee and may be billed separately.
